How our NHL model builds a pick

Hockey results carry a lot of randomness, so the model leans on process metrics that predict future scoring better than goals do: expected goals for and against at five-on-five, shot quality, and special-teams efficiency.

Goaltending is weighted heavily. The confirmed starter — not the team's usual number one — is what the model prices, using goals saved above expected over a meaningful sample. Back-to-backs matter twice over, because they affect skaters' legs and often mean the backup starts.

A signal is published when the model's probability clears the price, most often on underdog moneylines and on totals where goaltending or schedule has not been fully priced in.

The 2026–27 NHL season

The regular season opens on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, with five games: Hurricanes vs. Panthers, Canadiens vs. Maple Leafs, Rangers vs. Bruins, Canucks vs. Oilers, and Blackhawks vs. Golden Knights. It is the league's first 84-game schedule — 1,344 games in all — and it runs to Saturday, April 10, 2027.

Two more games per team in a similar window means more rest, travel, and back-to-back spots to account for, which is the schedule context the model already prices game by game.

Outdoor games on the calendar: the Heritage Classic in Winnipeg (Jets vs. Canadiens, October 25), the Winter Classic in Utah (Mammoth vs. Avalanche, December 31), and the Stadium Series at AT&T Stadium in Arlington (Stars vs. Golden Knights, February 20).

Who builds the model

The models are developed and trained in-house by a team of mathematicians working across China, the United States and the United Kingdom, on our own GPU cluster: eight NVIDIA B200 accelerators with 1.44 TB of GPU memory.

The methodology page describes the analysis process and its limitations. Recorded picks and settled outcomes are available separately on the results page.

Frequently asked questions

Are these picks free?

Yes. Free signals are published on this page with the model probability, the market, the price and the event time. Some additional signals are unlocked for members. Every published pick — free or not — is graded on the public results page, wins and losses included.

When does the 2026–27 NHL season start?

The regular season starts on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, with five opening-night games, and ends on Saturday, April 10, 2027. Each team plays 84 games. Picks for every game day are published on this page, and every result is graded on /results/nhl.

What are NHL computer picks?

They are picks produced by a statistical model rather than by opinion. Ours turns expected goals, goaltending, and schedule data into a probability for each side and only publishes picks where that probability beats the odds.

Why does the starting goalie matter so much?

The gap between a strong starter and a backup is often worth more than any skater. The model waits for goalie confirmations where possible and re-prices the game if the expected starter changes.

Where can I check your NHL results?

Every settled NHL pick is listed chronologically on /results/nhl, graded win, loss, push, or void. Nothing is removed after the fact, and past performance does not guarantee future results.

18+ only. Probabilities are model estimates, not guarantees, and past performance does not predict future results. Bet only what you can afford to lose — responsible gambling resources.
